Director, Investor Relations

Location: Wellesley, MA


This position reports to the Senior Vice President of MacDougall Biomedical Communications (MBI) investor relations practice. The candidate should have a strong background in life science financing activities as well as experience communicating complex scientific and clinical information to sophisticated investment audiences with medical and scientific training. The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong results in the execution of comprehensive IR programs focused around milestone-driven drug development companies:


  • Lead proactive investor outreach programs that will result in broad visibility and appreciation of our clients’ progress within the financial community
  • Proven relationships with the healthcare buyside, sellside and venture capital community
  • Experience providing clients with strategic counsel and advising on company decisions regarding materiality of disclosures
  • Design and manage Wall Street special events to provide in-depth understanding of client programs including Analyst Days, Financial community receptions at major Medical Meetings
  • Support clients during investor roadshows and investor conference participation
  • Participate in the development of presentations and corporate messaging that integrates the fundamental company strengths with investable milestones that can be presented to the investor audiences
  • Develop and maintain investor databases and quantitative financial performance tracking methods
  • Supervise accounts and work with the team to develop and execute effective
  • communications strategies that build/reinforce our client’s investment thesis and support our clients’ business goals and objectives
  • Design and implement crisis communications planning programs and actively participate in the counsel of client companies undergoing crisis situations including: trial failures, stock price fluctuations, activist investor campaigns, financing challenges, etc.
  • Partner with the MBI Creative Services department and generate new client business that reflects our integrated approach to communications
  • Participate in the firm’s business development initiatives by contributing to lead generation and leading new business pitches


  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or Finance is preferred
  • An advanced degree in business, science or another relevant discipline is desirable
  • 10 or more years of overall financial, investor relations, or scientific/medical communications experience
  • 8 years of strategy development experience at the highest levels of organizations
  • Advanced understanding of the drug development process
  • History of successful IR campaigns, where positive influence and desired results have been achieved
  • Proven experience providing exemplary client service and strategic counsel to c-level staff
  • Collaborative, team-building management skills
  • Management experience supervising staff and interfacing with cross-functional teams with demonstrated focus on collaboration and team-building management skills
  • Fluency in financial terms and understanding of life science funding strategies and players
  • Demonstrated use of excellent written and oral communications skills regarding complex scientific/technical subject matter
